GreenPower Enters Griffin Joint Venture

[19th February 2009]

GreenPower is pleased to announce that it has entered into a Joint Venture Agreement with Airtricity, part of Scottish & Southern Energy plc, the Perth based energy utility, to construct and operate Griffin Wind Farm.
The Joint Venture brings together GreenPower’s dedicated development team, which has been involved in the Griffin project for more than five years, and the construction and operational expertise of Airtricity/SSE.

The development received planning consent from the Scottish Ministers in January 2008. It will have up to 68 turbines and a total net capacity in the range of 130MW-200MW (depending on the most economic wind turbine option). Construction work is expected to begin later this year with the wind farm due to be completed in 2010/11.

Robert Forrest, Chief Executive of GreenPower, commented “We are delighted to be working with Airtricity/SSE to bring the Griffin Wind Farm, one of the largest wind farms in the UK, into operation. Achieving planning consent for Griffin was a huge milestone for GreenPower as a company. This Joint Venture agreement gives us the ability to continue to work on one of the most ambitious renewable energy projects in the UK and also brings a major capital injection which will greatly assist development of our growing pipeline of new projects.”

Update . . . . . Proposals for Access

[17th December 2008]

A822 works at Railway Bridge

During November engineering exploratory works were carried out on the A822 near the railway bridge at Ladywell, to enable engineering designs to create sufficient clearance for abnormal loads approaching the railway bridge. It is expected that these design changes will involve lowering of the highway close to the bridge and some bank stabilisation work either side of the bridge. When the engineering assessment is complete, we expect to submit a planning application for approval of these works.

As per our previous update below, GreenPower would like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience during the temporary works and apologise again for any inconvenience caused.

Alternative access proposals

As part of the access and transport assessment, GreenPower is also investigating an alternative route for large loads to reach the eastern side of the wind farm site via the Craigvinean Forest. This alternative access would leave the A9 directly at the existing "Whitegates" forestry haulage gate and would reach the Griffin wind farm site predominantly along the route of existing timber haulage tracks.

In the event that this alternative access route is used for wind turbine and large loads, it is unlikely that it would be necessary to carry out the A822 highway lowering works at the Ladywell bridge. The absence of abnormal load convoys from the A822,826 route would reduce the effects of the project on these public roads.

This “Craigvinean” route is currently being evaluated in detail and if it is found to be viable, then a planning application will be submitted.

Project timeframe

Works on the Griffin site itself are expected to commence in the Spring/Summer of 2009, subject to all necessary permits and subject to the contractor’s detailed construction programme. Broadly, however, the project programme is expected to roll out as planned with construction during the remainder of 2009 and throughout 2010, with turbine deliveries commencing in 2010 and finishing by the end of the year or early in 2011, approximately 22 months from the construction start date.

Update......Temporary Road Closure Now Over

[29th October 2008]

Temporary works on the A822 were completed on Tuesday 28th October. The temporary road closure and diversions are no longer required and signs will be removed.

GreenPower would like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience during these temporary works. We apologise again for any inconvenience caused.

Update......Temporary Road Closure

[17th October 2008]

Temporary works on the A822 are now scheduled to take place on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th October and, in order to minimise any effect on school and commuter traffic, the closure will be restricted to the period 09:30 to 15:00 each day.

If necessary, work may extend into Wednesday 29th October (adhering to the same times) but this is not expected to be required.

Local signage will keep you informed of the closure and suitable diversions will be identified.

Temporary Road Closure

[9th October 2008]

The Griffin project is proposing to design works to improve the road layout and geometry in the vicinity of the railway over-bridge on the A822 (at the Dunkeld end, close to the A9). Our engineers have written to Perth & Kinross Council to allow a road closure to facilitate the investigation.

The works are currently scheduled to take place later in October, during the week commencing 27th. Local signage will keep you informed of the closure and suitable diversions will be identified.
We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause.
